Tom Dodson – Fishergate, Preston

The image captures Fishergate before the church was moved, offering a fascinating glimpse into Preston's past. A wonderfully atmospheric early street scene, with horse-drawn carts, period shops, shopkeepers and people going about their daily business, all beautifully brought to life in Dodson's distinctive style with amazing bright colour.

About the Artist

Tom Dodson (1910–1991) was born in Salford, Manchester, into a typical working-class Lancashire family. Showing an early talent for art, he nevertheless left school at just 14 to become a grocer. It was only after retirement that he was able to truly pursue his artistic talent.

He went on to become affectionately known as “Lancashire's Favourite Artist”, celebrated for his nostalgic depictions of Lancashire life and its people.

This is a lovely-sized piece, mounted and framed under glass, ready to hang and enjoy.
