An exceptional 19th-century mahogany roll-top cylinder bureau, crafted by the renowned Hobbs & Company of London, one of Britain's most respected cabinet makers. This impressive antique showcases outstanding Victorian craftsmanship and is as practical as it is beautiful.
The elegant pierced quarter gallery sits above the distinctive cylinder roll-top, which opens smoothly to reveal a beautifully fitted interior featuring warm caramel satinwood drawer fronts, six drawers with their original brass pull handles, and seven pigeonholes.
A pull-out writing slide is fitted with three green tooled and embossed leather skivers, with the central skiver adjusting into an angled writing slope. The desk also retains its original inkwells and pen slide, making it a wonderfully complete example.
Below are two pedestal banks of four graduated drawers with a larger central drawer, all displaying superb hand-cut dovetail joints that highlight the exceptional quality of its construction. with working locks and original key. The desk is fully finished to the rear, allowing it to be placed proudly in the centre of a room as well as against a wall.
