Tom Dodgson (1910–1991) – "Evening at Home" – Original Pencil Signed Print with Studio Arts Gallery Embossed Stamp
A wonderful and nostalgic Northern family scene by the highly collectable Lancashire artist Tom Dodgson (1910–1991), depicting a warm evening at home in a bustling family household.
The scene is full of charm and character. Dad sits contentedly in front of the open fire in his socks, reading the newspaper while listening to the radio. Mum gently brushes the youngest child's hair, while the other five children happily entertain themselves around the room. It's a beautifully observed snapshot of everyday Northern life, capturing the warmth, humour and togetherness of a bygone era.
This example is pencil signed by Tom Dodgson and bears the Studio Arts Gallery embossed stamp, adding to its collectability.
Born in Salford, Manchester, Tom Dodgson was the eldest of five children in a hardworking Lancashire family. His artistic talent was evident from an early age, when he would cover the pavements around his backstreet Ordsall home with chalk drawings of local characters. His authentic and affectionate portrayals of working-class Northern life have made his work highly sought after by collectors across the UK.
This is a particularly fine example, having retained its superb original colour. It has never been displayed in direct sunlight, leaving the colours exceptionally bright, vibrant and crisp. It presents beautifully and would make an outstanding addition to any collection of Northern art.
A substantial and impressive piece, it would look superb in a home, office, gallery wall or private collection.
