£495.00
A truly spectacular early nineteenth-century Biedermeier secretaire, secretary desk or writing cabinet, dating from around 1830 and originating from the renowned Biedermeier period in Vienna, Austria.
This exceptional piece retains its original retailer's sticker from Copenhagen (Kjøbenhavn), Denmark, adding further interest and provenance to what is already a remarkably impressive example.
The cabinet has been beautifully veneered in the finest mirror-matched flame mahogany, with an absolutely stunning and richly figured grain. The deep, warm colour and exceptional figuring of the timber make this a real statement piece.
The layout comprises:
A single drawer to the top
A fold-down writing surface, revealing a wonderfully fitted interior
Six breath-taking inlaid drawers, each displaying exceptional decorative workmanship
A central lockable cupboard, also featuring remarkable inlay work
Three graduated drawers below
The drawers are all beautifully constructed with tight, hand-cut dovetail joints, demonstrating the quality and craftsmanship of this early nineteenth-century piece. The lockable compartments make it not only a magnificent decorative antique but also a highly practical and functional piece of furniture.
The quality of the inlay throughout is simply outstanding, and the combination of the spectacular flame mahogany, elegant proportions and beautifully detailed interior makes this an exceptional example of Biedermeier craftsmanship.
A truly breath-taking antique — equally at home as a statement piece in a period property, country house, townhouse or contemporary interior.
