For sale is a stunning antique Davenport desk, featuring a beautifully preserved crocodile writing surface with a finely tooled edge. The inlaid top opens to reveal storage for pens with a hidden compartment. The lift-up top opens to reveal an interior fitted with multiple pigeon holes, offering excellent storage for papers and stationery. One side of the Davenport houses four graduated drawers with original wooden pull handles, while the opposite side features four faux drawers, staying true to the classic form of the design. The desk stands on elegant scrolled supports and retains its original turned bun feet with brass castors, allowing for smooth movement. Crafted from golden-shaded walnut, the piece displays a striking grain and exceptional inlay work throughout. Though Davenport desks became popular domestic furniture due to their compact form and ample storage, it's worth noting that the design was originally created by Gillows for Captain Davenport as a piece of portable writing furniture.
