Country House Sofa & Armchair in the Manner of Howard & Sons, c.1930s

We are delighted to offer for sale this handsome English country house sofa and matching armchair, dating from the 1930s and designed in the manner of the celebrated London furniture makers, Howard & Sons.

This wonderfully comfortable suite displays the classic proportions associated with traditional English country house furniture, with low, deep seats and elegantly shaped hardwood frames creating a relaxed yet timeless appearance.

Both pieces are traditionally upholstered and generously filled with horsehair, with roomy seats supported by well-adjusted coil springs. They have been re-covered in a traditional woven fabric with a high silk content, showcasing the fine craftsmanship of the upholsterer and giving the suite a wonderfully authentic, period appearance.

The sofa and armchair stand on turned mahogany front legs, with splayed legs to the rear, and are fitted with white porcelain castors, allowing them to be moved with ease.

A charming and comfortable suite with excellent country house character, ideal for a traditional interior, library, drawing room or sitting room.

Condition

Both the sofa and armchair are in good condition, commensurate with their age and use.
