19th Century Regency Style Convex Butler's Mirror – Giltwood Frame – 40cm Diameter
£50.00
A charming 19th Century Regency-style convex mirror, also known as a Butler's Mirror, Banker's Mirror, or "Witch's Eye" Mirror, featuring a beautifully aged giltwood frame decorated with evenly spaced applied roundels and an elegant inner slip.
The original convex glass is in good condition, displaying only very slight silvering and age-related foxing, which adds character and authenticity to this wonderful antique piece. Constructed from quarter-sawn oak, the mirror displays fantastic grain and craftsmanship throughout.
Convex mirrors became popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, originally allowing servants and butlers to discreetly observe activity throughout a dining room without being intrusive. Today they remain highly sought after as decorative statement pieces, reflecting light beautifully and creating a sense of space within a room.
Measuring approximately 40cm in diameter, this is an attractive and versatile size, ideal for hallways, living rooms, studies, or as part of a gallery wall.
Condition: Good antique condition with minor age-related wear and slight silvering to the glass, commensurate with age and enhancing its character.
Dimensions: 40cm diameter.
